This transmedia and transdisciplinary project main goal is to increase ocean literacy (OL) of target audiences by telling stories of infamous shipwrecks in Europe’s coastline, using multiple media and points of contact – such as virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), linear video and an immersive installation.
About the connection to the EU Mission Restore our Oceans and Waters, this proposal addresses two issues in a creative/ artistic manner:
– the past impacts of shipwrecks in a specific European coastal area and, also,
– the future impacts of climate change in European coastal areas.
Significantly, this project wants to reach out and engage with specific audiences and stakeholders, particularly students and teachers from basic and secondary schools, as well as institutions such as museums and science centres, contributing towards a civic relationship with ocean and waters.
About the main research question, this project aims to understand if and how VR and AR can increase ocean literacy among specific audiences, comparing with more standard screen media such as linear video?
